Stroke Association Support Network- Ghana is a National Non-Profit, Non-Governmental Organization Established by a small group of Ghanaians. Established in 16th March 2012 by Rev Dr. Immanuel Alpha-Christ and Ad Adams Ebenezer, and later by   supported by Dr. Ben S. Jabuni who joined the organization in 2019.

SASNET-GHANA is legally registered with Register General Department (CG03172016) and Non-For-Profit Organization Secretariat (DSW/9….) of the social welfare department of Ghana.

SASNET-GHANA is a member of the World Stroke Organization (WSO), World Heart Federation (WHF), African Stroke Organization (ASO), World Hypertension League (WHL), World Patients Alliance (WPA), Community Based Rehabilitation Africa Network, African Community on Assistive Technology (ACAT) and has an ECOSOC membership with the United Nation (ECOSOC-UN).

Co-founder and Executive director: – Ad Adams Ebenezer (Vice Chair of the Ghana NCD Alliance ,GhNCDA, World Patients Alliance regional committee member for Africa and a Rehabilitation expert).

Executive Board: The executive board is composed of stroke survivors, health professionals, Secretary, others.

Regional Representatives: SASNET-GHANA has 16 representatives across the 16 regions of Ghana.

Network of Patients:

Network of Persons living with Stroke, CVD, Hypertension, Diabetes and Obesity across the 16 regions of Ghana.

The Network of Persons living with Stroke is lead by Stroke Survivor as a chair, Mr. Samuel Sedodo, Organizer- Mr. Albert Nyalemegbe, and regional Chairpersons, Greater Accra- Mr. Ericsson K. Arthur, Bono and Ahafo- Mr. Kumah Ayeh, Oti region- Mr. Samuel V., Volta Region-Mrs. Easther, including leaders in the remaining regions.

Vision:

We want a nation that recognizes Stroke, CVD, Hypertension, Diabetes and Obesity, a non-communicable disease, as a public health priority and that all its peoples are fully educated about the risk factors, and all those affected have access to the best possible treatment and rehabilitation support.

Mission:

We campaign for better and an improved stroke, CVD, Hypertension, Obesity, Diabetes care and services and provide preventive and rehabilitation /recovery support service to stroke survivors, CVD and Hypertensive patients, and promote research in all aspect of stroke, CVD, Hypertension, Diabetes and Obesity in Ghana.

 

Notable Achievements

SASNET-GHANA collaboratively worked with the Ministry of Health -Ghana, Ghana Health Service and World Heart Federation, carried out a national Score Card Project which is seen as an important contribution in assessment and streamlining/optimization of CVD prevention and management, pursuant to the objectives of the National Health and NCD Policies.

2.  The Stroke Association Supportnetwork-Ghana (SASNET-GHANA) collaborated with Ghanaian Society of Cardiology (GSC) and the World Heart Federation (WHF) to organize a roundtable on hypertension in Ghana. A country mapping with regards to hypertension was conducted pre-event to gain a better understanding of the current situation including the evolution of hypertension over the years in Ghana.

3.  Instituted a National Stroke Survivors Day, an annual program (Commemorated on 16th of March every year) in which information about stroke care, prevention and rehabilitation management are discussed and assessed to identify progress and gaps and proffer solutions from an expert perspective.

4. Established a flagship program, Community Life After Stroke Rehabilitation Program (CLASP) at communities where access to post stroke support and rehabilitation are not available.
